Multi-Family Dwelling is a residential classification of housing where multiple separate housing units for residential inhabitants are contained within one building or several buildings within one complex. Units can be next to each other, or stacked on top of each other. A common form is an apartment building.

Permits Required

  • Building Permit/Development Permit
  • Plumbing Permit
  • Drainage Permit
  • Demo Permit (if there is an existing structure),
  • Approach Permit
  • Water and Wastewater Connection Permit
  • Electrical Permit (this is not a city permit, you must go to Manitoba Hydro)

Prior to starting your project you must have a Locate done.

  • Construction Drawings
    • Floor Plan (if you’re pouring a basement but not finishing it, we still need a drawing showing where the windows are going to be located along with any bathrooms must be labelled),
    • Cross Sections
    • Window Schedule
    • Foundation Plans
    • Engineered Drawings (if applicable)
    • Plumbing Schematics 
    • Red Seal ticket for Plumber
  • Engineered Drainage Plan (if applicable)
  • Status of Title (issued by the Winnipeg Land Titles Office no later than 30 days before the date of the application)
