Selkirk Day is a celebration of the city’s incorporation on June 15, 1882. Since being officially recognized as Selkirk Day last year, that historic date has become an annual opportunity to celebrate civic pride and community connection. It gives longtime residents and newcomers alike a way to learn more about what makes Selkirk unique, share in local traditions, and take part in new ones.
Rather than limit the celebration to one day, the City of Selkirk is marking the occasion with a full month of events and activities throughout June. A listing of events and activities is below.
Community Beautification: Taking Pride in Selkirk Together
Join City staff, the Selkirk Community Renewal Corporation, and fellow residents for a community clean-up at the Selkirk Waterfront on June 18 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
It’s a great opportunity to spend time outdoors, meet others, and help keep Selkirk clean and beautiful for everyone to enjoy. Every effort makes a difference. No registration is required.
Selkirk Storytellers: Stories Close to Home
Celebrate local voices and creativity at the Selkirk Storytellers event on June 23 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Gaynor Family Regional Library.
Authors Maureen Flynn, Patti Grayson, and Lauren Carter will share insights into their books and experiences living in and around Selkirk. Books will also be available for purchase, giving you the opportunity to take home a piece of their work.

Explore Selkirk’s rich history anytime with the Selkirk Museum website. Throughout June, you can browse stories from the comfort of your home.
This month features a brand new online exhibit on the history of Selkirk’s Civic Office, along with a new blog highlighting Selkirk’s first council meeting. It is a great way to learn more about how the city began and evolved.

Show Your Selkirk Pride with Official City Flags
Celebrate Selkirk Day by flying the official City of Selkirk flag. For the first time ever, the city is offering flags for sale so everyone can proudly display their community spirit at home, work, or around town.
Created in 1988 through a community contest, the flag proudly features the city’s Coat of Arms, a crest designed to mark Selkirk’s Centennial in 1982. With symbols representing land and water transportation, the Red River, and Selkirk’s Scottish roots, the design tells the story of a city built on connection and community.

Learning About Selkirk in the Classroom
Young residents are getting involved in the celebration too. Students in Selkirk schools in grades 3 to 5 will receive special City of Selkirk activity packs filled with fun and interactive ways to learn about their community and its history.
It is an engaging way to build local pride and help the next generation connect with Selkirk’s story.
