Here is this week’s infrastructure update for current projects underway in the City of Selkirk.
600 & 700 Block of McLean Avenue – Asphalt Overlay, Curb Replacement, and Sidewalk Renewal
The new sidewalk on McLean has been completed. Prep work for curb installation will take place from September 5 to 8, with new curbs scheduled to be poured beginning September 9. Asphalt paving on the road surface will follow during the week of September 14.
600 Block of Vaughan Avenue – Asphalt Overlay, Curb Replacement, and Sidewalk Renewal
Work to install new sidewalks is underway and is expected to continue until September 14. New curbs are scheduled to be installed during the week of September 14 with asphalt paving to follow.
400 Block of Queen Avenue – Asphalt Overlay, Curb Replacement, and Sidewalk Renewal
Work will begin in the coming weeks.
Morrison Avenue between Eveline and Montgomery – Asphalt Replacement
Work to replace the asphalt is scheduled to begin the week of September 14.
300 Block of Greenwood Avenue – Sidewalk Renewal
Sidewalk work is expected to begin during the week of September 21.
Please note that these timelines are subject to change. Once construction begins, efforts are made to keep it moving steadily, but delays may occur between different stages of construction.
Why are we doing this?
Replacing the asphalt on our roads will create safer, smoother rides for motorists and less wear and tear on vehicles. Sidewalk replacement will improve safety and create a more accessible route for pedestrians.
Why now?
Our Capital Asset Management Program helped us identify that now is the time. Doing this work now protects infrastructure long-term by making the right investments at the right time to help avoid more costly replacements and interruptions to services later.
