The City of Selkirk is committed to keeping citizens informed during the second Canada Post strike effective September 25.
Below is essential information regarding sending and receiving mail during this time.
1. Sending Mail to the City of Selkirk:
During the Canada Post strike, mail delivery will be halted completely and anything in transition prior to the strike will also be halted. To ensure your documents and payments reach the City of Selkirk, we encourage you to use the following alternatives:
In-Person Payments & Submissions: You can visit the City of Selkirk’s civic office to make payments or submit documents in person. Our in-person office hours are currently:
Monday to Friday: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM (after-hours drop box available near front door).
We are located at: 200 Eaton Avenue, Selkirk, MB R1A 0W6
Please note that at this time, extensions for payments will not be granted. Bills that were received prior to the postal strike continue to be due on their due date and any outstanding amounts will continue to accrue penalty costs. This is especially important for tax payments that have been mailed .
Online Services: Some bills can be paid online, and some services are available online. Please visit our website for more details on our self-serve options. www.myselkirk.ca/selfserveoptions. Please note that online payments can take up to 5 business days to be processed and are deemed received on the date the city receives payment, not on the day the payment was made.
Courier Services: If you need to send important documents or payments to the city during the Canada Post strike, we recommend using a private courier service. Services outside of Canada Post are unaffected by the strike at this time and can ensure timely delivery to the City of Selkirk. Please note that the city will not incur any fees associated with this.
2. Receiving Mail from the City of Selkirk:
Mail delivery has been halted as a result of the strike. Currently, the city has halted most outgoing mail.
The City is currently determining how to move forward with utility billing for Quarter 3. Please do not reach out at this time as a public notice will be placed here as well as on the home page of the website once a decision has been made.
If you are expecting any other mail outside of utility bills, we ask that you please pick it up from the Civic Office until further notice but to please reach out to us in advance of coming into the civic office to ensure that your mail is ready for pick up.
3. Missed Mail from Prior to the Strike:
If you were expecting mail from the City of Selkirk that was sent prior to the strike and has not yet been received, please reach out to us for assistance. We are here to help with any concerns regarding your mail delivery.
We understand that these delays may be inconvenient, and we appreciate your patience during this time. The City of Selkirk is monitoring the situation and may change this messaging over time as we strive to ensure our services remain accessible and efficient despite disruptions.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
