It’s summertime in Selkirk and that means the Selkirk Port Market is just around the corner with dozens of vendors eager to offer their locally grown produce and hand-crafted goods to equally eager consumers.
Rain or shine, the Port Market runs every Wednesday from July 23 to Aug. 27, 10am to 2pm on the Selkirk Waterfront.
New this year is a featured booth at each market.
“Each week there will be an interactive booth where people will get the chance to learn more about the organization and chat with and ask questions of the people there who are representing,” says Ellie Longbottom, the city’s Culture Coordinator.
“Oak Hammock Marsh will be here on July 23, and they’re going to measure your wingspan and then tell you what local bird you match up with. It’s fun and educational.”
Other featured booths include the Selkirk Fire Department on July 30, Canadian Parks and Wilderness Association (CPAWS) on Aug. 6, with more to be announced.
The market itself will have 45+ vendors for you to shop to your heart’s desire.

Angie Neeth, the market’s coordinator, says she’s looking forward to another great year at the Waterfront.
“The response to the Selkirk Port Market has been incredible,” Neeth said.
“Vendors look forward to it all year, and many of them return season after season—not just to showcase their work, but because of the connections they’ve built here. There’s a real sense of community, not only among the vendors but with the people who come out each week. It’s what makes the market such a special place.”
Vegetables, jewelry, baking, jams, clothing and more!
Each week the market will have different vendors, and a list of the vendors will be provided on the Selkirk Port Market Facebook Page and on Instagram @selkirk_port_market each week.
There will be everything from everyone’s favourites — the fresh vegetables, to hand-crafted jewelry, home-made baking, jams, jellies, tea, clothing, body care, dog treats, food trucks, you name it, the market will have it.
The United for Literacy Reading Tent returns for another year of educational fun. The reading tents are designed to reduce the loss of knowledge and skills that can occur for young learners during summer break.
The Selkirk Fair Trade Steering Committee will be part of the market this year and will be making smoothies – using a peddle bike – and using fair trade ingredients.
The Selkirk Heritage Advisory Committee will also have a booth and have photos and other artifacts that will immerse you in the history of Selkirk. Committee members will be looking for your help in identifying people in the photos, so perhaps you’ll be pleasantly surprised and discover your family members in a long-lost photo.
Live entertainment and food vendor each week
The entertainment at the Port Market – provided by buskers – is always a hit and this year’s lineup is spectacular.
A market favorite, Gabriel Bylyna returns again this year with his fiddle and exuberant personality and playing style. He opens market season on July 23. Next up is Made in the Shade on July 30, Barry, Tim and Terry playing their brand of county, bluegrass and vintage rock. Aug. 6 features Austen Croy, a 16-year-old musician who plays country and folk, and includes some of his original numbers.
Kendra Grieger will bring her violin and immense talent to the busker stage on Aug. 13. She’s a multi-instrumentalist who also teaches music and performs at various events. On Aug. 20 Tim Osmond will work his musical magic as he picks and strums through bluegrass and Appalachian-inspired tunes. Tim is also a member of the Stanley County Cut-Ups, who just performed at Selkirk’s Canada Day, and the Spectacles trio.
Garth Reid closes out the market on Aug. 27. The lifelong Selkirk resident has performed or recorded with the Muddy River Stringers and the Crash Test Dummies. His busking performance will feature country covers.
