Please be advised that despite the recent rain, conditions in Manitoba remain very dry and upon the recommendation of the Selkirk Fire Chief, who has consulted with other fire chiefs in neighbouring communities, the City of Selkirk has extended the temporary fire ban to be re-evaluated on Friday, May 23, 2025.
We understand this may come as an inconvenience as the outdoor season is upon us, but this is an important proactive measure to reduce the risk of fires in Selkirk and helps ensure firefighting resources remain available to support regional fire response efforts in areas currently experiencing fires and those more prone to fires.
During the ban the following is currently not permitted within Selkirk city limits:
- All open-air fires, including fire pits, on private or city property including the Selkirk Park Campground and where permits have previously been granted.
- Fireworks.
Propane and gas barbecues may still be used, but we ask that extra caution be taken.
No new burn permits will be issued while the fire ban is in place.
The fire ban has been in effect since May 7, 2025, and as mentioned above, will be re-evaluated on Friday, May 23, 2025.
