Here is this week’s infrastructure update for current projects underway in the City of Selkirk.
🔹Main Street North Landscaping & Naturalization
The city is working to naturalize the boulevards and medians by planting shrubs, wildflowers, and prairie grasses.
The contractor is scheduled to spot spray all the weeds on the medians this week once the wind conditions improve.
Boulevards between Manitoba Avenue and Queen Avenue still require raking and additional planting medium prior to seeding.
Seeded areas where fescue grass has been planted requires erosion control blanket maintenance and additional seeding may be required where erosion has occurred.
Stressed shrubs from drought conditions are being monitored and some are showing signs of new growth.
Watering of shrubs, trees and plants is ongoing.
We are still waiting for some plants to be delivered to complete the rain gardens, but they should be fully planted by the end of August.

🔹 200 Block of Taylor Avenue & 400 Block of Eveline Street
Temporary water connections to affected houses have been completed and the contractor is hooking up individual water services to the new watermain. If residents have water connection issues, they should contact Buus Construction at 204-941-0926.
As of July 25, there will be no parking on Taylor Avenue between Main Street and Eveline Street until further notice.
The watermain renewal project is expected to be completed next week with road reconstruction to start sometime in September.
Driveway access will not be affected. Garbage and recycling days should remain the same, however, there may be some days when the truck may need to return on a different day to complete pickup.

| The City is upgrading underground infrastructure on the 200 block of Taylor Avenue and the 400 block of Eveline Street to make the street safer, more reliable, and more accessible for both motorists and pedestrians. On Taylor, a new sidewalk will be added to the south side, connecting to the city’s existing pathways and supporting active living. The new watermain will extend service life and improve service to the area, which has been prone to watermain breaks in recent years, while wastewater pipe renewal will improve service and reduce the risk of sewer failure. |
🔹 Mercy Street Bike Lane & Resurfacing
Crews are continuing work on the Mercy Bike Lane between Manchester Avenue and Manitoba Avenue this week.
Road surface replacement between Strathnaver Avenue and Pacific Avenue started on August 11 and will take about 3 weeks to complete.

| The addition of this protected bike lane will allow cyclists to travel north/south safely from one end of Selkirk to another and will connect cyclists to Selkirk’s existing Active Transportation Network. The new road surface will create a safer, more accessible street surface and improve driving conditions while lessening strain on vehicles. |
🔹 Garry Theatre Renovations
Contractors will continue painting the exterior of the Garry Theatre during the week of August 18 and a portion of the north side sidewalk on Manitoba Avenue near the theatre will remain temporarily closed to pedestrians while this work is completed. This work was delayed this week due to rain.
🔹 Sidewalk Repairs
Sidewalk spot repairs are currently taking place in various locations throughout the city. Damaged sidewalk panels are being replaced for pedestrian safety.
As for all infrastructure projects, please stay clear of construction equipment.
