Please be advised that due to the extremely dry conditions and upon the recommendation of the Selkirk Fire Chief, who has consulted with other fire chiefs in neighbouring communities, the City of Selkirk has enacted a temporary fire ban effective May 7, 2025.
This is a proactive measure to reduce the risk of fires in Selkirk and helps ensure firefighting resources remain available to support regional fire response efforts in areas more prone to fire.
During the ban the following is currently not permitted within Selkirk city limits:
- All open-air fires, including fire pits, on private or city property including where permits have been granted.
- Fireworks.
Propane and gas barbecues may still be used, but citizens are asked to use caution.
No new burn permits will be issued while the fire ban is in place.
The fire ban will be in effect until May 16, at which point conditions will be reviewed and the fire ban will be re-evaluated.
