The Selkirk Weed Control District — which includes the City of Selkirk, Town of Winnipeg Beach, and the RMs of St. Andrews and St. Clements — is reminding residents and property owners that under Manitoba’s Noxious Weeds Act, they are responsible for removing or controlling noxious weeds on any land they own or occupy, including residential, commercial, and agricultural land.
If weeds are not destroyed or controlled as per the laws and regulations of the Act, the Weed Control District may enter the land and destroy or control the weeds without notice. The cost of the weed control will be charged to the property owner through tax rolls. Weeds discovered to be present after May 30, 2025 will be destroyed or controlled by mowing, cultivating, or through the use of herbicide.
Each municipality in the Selkirk Weed Control District reserves the right to levy a service fee on the affected property’s tax roll in addition to the cost of the weed control incurred by the Weed District.
