Inaugural Mayors’ Gala for the Arts to launch new endowment fund
It’s no secret that the Selkirk, St. Andrews and St. Clements region is renowned for its arts community, considered by many to be as vibrant and robust as any in the province. To celebrate and support this most dynamic sect, municipal leaders in the Triple ‘S’ area are banding together in support of a unique initiative that will kick off November 9 in Selkirk.
The Mayors’ Gala for the Arts, hosted by the Mayors of Selkirk, St. Andrews and St. Clements, will mark the official launch of the Selkirk & District Endowment for the Arts (EndowArts) Fund. Tickets are now available for the evening that will include live music and an address by Dr. Stephen Borys, Director and CEO of the Winnipeg Art Gallery, at the Selkirk Golf and Country Club.
“Our region is home to one of the most spirited and energetic collection of artisans anywhere,” Selkirk Mayor Larry Johannson said, “and it has been for as far back as I can recall. The creation of an endowment to support the great work of all these dedicated and talents individuals is an idea whose time has come.”
EndowArts
Established in 2016, the EndowArts Fund is an endowment fund held and professionally managed by the Selkirk & District Community Foundation. Donations made to the fund are invested permanently, with the investment income being used to provide grants to non–profit community organizations promoting the growth and developments of the arts.
The event is being planned and organized by the EndowArts Steering Committee, a volunteer group of local citizens committed to promote and strengthen the arts in the region. Mayor Johannson said idea of a gala in support of the fund was not a hard sell for himself or his counterparts, Mayor George Pike of St. Andrews and Debbie Fiebelkorn, Mayor of St. Clements.
“All three centres are really bustling with activity when it comes to our artists and the arts scene in general,” he said. “To come together in support of this great grassroots initiative is something I think we are all really pleased to do.”
Strengthen the Arts in the Region
The EndowArts Steering Committee is a volunteer group of local citizens committed to promote and strengthen the arts in the region. Membership is comprised of local residents invited to participate due to their participation within the arts community or the skills they bring to the committee’s work. The group is an unincorporated, non-profit association that works independently from, but in support of, the EndowArts Fund.
Only a limited number of tickets are available for the inaugural event. Single tickets are $50, with tables of six also available.
