Waterfront Concert Series wraps with family event August 26
Cap off an amazing summer of fun with a magnificent night of music and magic August 26 at Waterfront Park in Selkirk. The City of Selkirk invites everyone to the sixth annual Waterfront Festival, the final event in the 2017 Waterfront Concert Series.
“This has been a summer to remember for all the right reasons and we’d like to see everyone come down and celebrate this great season with us at our Waterfront Festival on Saturday,” Selkirk Mayor Larry Johannson said. “Our waterfront has absolutely been the place to be this year, so we’re hoping folks will come down and join us for what I know will be another fun event at this great venue.”
Things get underway starting at 4 pm on Saturday with the Kids Zone. Bring the little ones to enjoy bouncers and face painting that is sure to brighten their day. The whole family may also enjoy some lemonade or mini donuts courtesy of Selkirk’s favourite food vendors who will also be on site that day. Crafters will also be down on the site sharing their assortment of unique wares.
Music and Magic
Later on, the Ryan Price Magic Show makes its return to take the audience on a wonderous trip filled with laughter and dazzling displays of magical feats they have never seen before. Ryan’s show is full of colourful and large effects and is sure to please.
For the older kids in the crowd, live music hits the waterfront stage starting at 7pm. The “B” Side Champs bring their larger–than–life rhythm and blues revue to Selkirk. Inspired by classic R&B of the 60’s, the great music coming out of Stax Studios like Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, Wilson Pickett, Booker T and the MG’s, The “B” Side Champs honour the past with energy and authenticity featuring a huge sound that can only be delivered by an 11–piece band. Hear and learn more about this great R & B retro band at the group’s website: www.thebsidechamps.com/home.
Once again, Selkirk’s favourite food vendors will be on site offering a wide array of delicious selections. Bring a comfy lawn chair and an appetite for delicious food and incredible entertainment and settle in for what will surely be another magical night at the beautiful Selkirk Waterfront. With a beautiful backdrop of the Red River and the city’s famous Blue Bridge in the background, it’s a night to bring families and the people of our community together and celebrating this great city.
“We are really pleased with the great response the Waterfront Festival has received in the past as well as the strong turnouts we’ve seen throughout the concert series events this year,” said Faisal Anwar, Director of Sustainable Economic Development for the city. “This is really what we were hoping for as part of the city’s strategy; to build a vibrant community, revitalize our downtown and provide the best possible recreational opportunities.”
And don’t worry about the rain. Waterfront events are never cancelled. Should the rains come, the event will be moved indoors to the Selkirk Arena – known as The Barn. Visit MySelkirk.ca for full event details.
