In Selkirk, the name Bob Jefferson was synonymous with giving. The born-and-raised Selkirk boy and owner of Bob Jefferson Century 21 and Associates loved his hometown and donated to every cause, big or small.
When he passed away unexpectedly two years ago, the community was stunned and the loss of ‘Bobby J’ was felt by all. In typical fashion though, he’s made sure his caring spirit lives on through his will.
The Selkirk and District Community Foundation was always one of Jefferson’s favourite organizations and he willed the Foundation his collection of sport memorabilia and Ducks Unlimited paintings and sculptures.
Those items are set to be auctioned off at Kaye’s Auction House, located at 263 Stanley Street in Winnipeg in two separate auctions.
Stan Halbesma, Selkirk and District Community Foundation board member, said Jefferson’s philanthropic ways were the stuff of legend and the entire Triple S community, and beyond, benefitted from his kindness.
“He did have a soft spot for many, many charities and organizations within the City of Selkirk and the surrounding communities,” Halbesma said.
“He was one of a kind for sure.”
Jefferson’s collection of 34 Ducks Unlimited items includes beautiful framed prints, including several by renowned artist Terry Redlin, as well as a stunning polar bear family sculpture. His sport memorabilia is impressive and contains the classic Bobby Orr Boston Bruins photo ‘The Goal’ in a glass case along with a signed hockey stick, as well as a framed and signed Jean Beliveau Montreal Canadiens jersey, commemorating Beliveau’s 500th goal. There’s also a Darryl Sittler Toronto Maple Leafs jersey that’s framed with a puck and game ticket from 1976, and a Bobby Hull Chicago Black Hawks framed and signed jersey with a puck. All have certificates of authenticity.
All proceeds to the Selkirk and District Community Foundation.
